Chasing a domestic double, the Süper Lig leaders were a goal up after six minutes through Yusuf Şimşek's powerful strike. Despite the setback, Fenerbahçe gradually worked their way back into the game and equalised after 26 minutes when Daniel Güiza finished off Deivid's assist. Beşiktaş threatened to retake the lead as the first half drew to a close while Bobô had an effort parried by Fenerbahçe keeper Volkan Babacan two minutes after the break. The Brazilian did find the target nine minutes later, though, firing in from long range.

Rodrigo Tello was then denied by the crossbar and Volkan before Bobô (73) headed in his second and Beşiktaş's third. Filip Hološko confirmed the victory ten minutes from time although Fenerbahçe captain Alex pulled one back with a last-minute penalty. "We had lost to Fenerbahçe twice in the league but we managed to be leaders and recover from those defeats," said Beşiktaş coach Mustafa Denizli, who insisted his team's triumph was well deserved. "We beat our opponents in such a critical game. If we had just been a little more careful, the score would have been higher for us."
